Working in the style of the English Romanticist landscape painter J.M.W. Turner, a modern interpretation of his painting style is created. Using the subject of cars in traffic on a wetted background, paint is dabbed and loosely applied. This allows it to mix freely and blend naturally on the wet background to create a blurry and sometimes impressionistic effect. This is in contrast to the neat and precise styles of some other artists. There is animated reference to the artist J.M.W.Turner, as well as some of his works, to set this in context and add an element of art history.

Pupils could practice blending and mixing colours gently on the paper using a wetted background and dots of paint. Paint dabs onto wet paper and move the paper around to allow gravity to streak the colours together. Experiment with different wet paint effects by moving, blending and mixing the colours together in different ways.
