A number of scientists answer questions about cells. They begin with a definition of a cell as the unit of life, then explain some of the history of the discovery of the cell by van Leeuwenhoek. Includes a discussion of cell functions such as regeneration, movement and growth. Images and video are used to show the diversity of cells.

Students could suggest reasons for the different structure and behaviour of the animal cells shown compared with plant cells. After extra research, they could draw diagrams of each with labels to show the differences and similarities. Research could be extended to include fungi and bacteria cells.
