An overview of die casting and sand casting of metals. Metals can be heated until they melt and formed into any shape in a cast before solidifying. The two main methods of casting are sand casting, in which the mould is used only once, and die casting, in which the mould can be used many times. Examples of cast items are given and their uses are discussed.
