A look at the variety of plants and animals which can be found in a typical back garden. Ants are attracted to a plate of jam, and bees collect nectar from flowers. A robin collects grubs from the soil to feed to its young. Look closely and you might even spot foxes and a mouse, eating strawberries.

Ask the class to watch the clip and see how many of the animals featured in the clip they can identify and are familiar with. Tell the children they are going to compare this with the school grounds. Go on an ‘eye spy’ tour of the school grounds and when the children become more familiar with the habitat, they can become tour guides for other children becoming specialists on specific habitats.
