A song about halves and halving. Everyday items such as chocolate, drinks, fruit, vegetables and numbers are cut in half by children. In some cases, items are halved and then halved again to make four equal parts. The images show the practical everyday use of fractions and the link between maths and the real world.

Divide students into pairs and provide each with a range of objects which can be shared or cut in half. Discuss how students can ensure that sharing is fair and reinforce the fact that halves must always be equal parts. Pairs could join to make groups of four and share their objects with their new group members.
