A Hindu woman tells the story of Ganesh, the elephant-headed god of prosperity and wisdom. Ganesh is also revered as the Remover of Obstacles. There is always a rat present in pictures of him, thought to be the vehicle he travels on. He has four arms, in three he carries an axe, a snare, some sweet meets, and his fourth hand is held up to offer his protection and blessing.
Ask students to list the difficulties that people may face in life. To what extent might it be helpful for Hindus to believe that they can pray to God in the form of Ganesh, the Remover of Obstacles?
