A comparison of how a young person and an older person might hear the sounds in a New York subway. Just as the outside of our ears changes as we get older, the way we hear sounds changes too.

The clip could be stopped in various places and the children could discuss what they notice about the changes. Pupils could be provided with a variety of pictures to put into a timeline and then be challenged to find differences and similarities and perhaps estimate the age. Pupils could investigate what it would be like to have limited hearing by wearing earmuffs for the day or limited sight by wearing a patch, working with a partner who could record what difficulties they faced.
