In order for a car to run it needs petrol. Petrol is fuel for the car. People are more complex than cars. For the human body to function it needs many different types of fuel in the form of food. The human body needs food for energy, to keep warm, and for growth and repair. We need many nutrients on a daily basis in order to stay healthy. The three main nutrient groups in food are carbohydrates, protein and fats. We also need minerals and vitamins. A good balanced diet of fresh food helps to keep us healthy.

This clip could be used to introduce balanced diets. The children could then survey different year groups about what they had for their lunch and a bar chart or pie chart could be created to show if the school eats a balanced diet or if more of one type of food is eaten more so than the other. The children could also be given a selection of food types on their table and they could choose the healthiest balanced diet and then explain to their class why what they have chosen is the most healthiest and balanced diet.
