A young Scottish Traveller talks about why people are Travellers. He explains what it means to be a Traveller and discusses the advantages and disadvantages. He talks about his experiences of home education, and attitudes that others have towards Travellers.
This is useful to portray a different kind of lifestyle, its advantages and disadvantages, and also to discuss similarities and differences between travellers and non-travellers. What are pupils' opinion on George's life? What things do they like and don't like about it? What about home education? Pupils could make a chart in their books to compare and contrast their lifestyle with George's. They could consider aspects such as school, social and family life, holidays, opportunities, personal growth, safety, pros and cons. Would they like to live like George? Why (not)?
