This would be useful to watch as part of a lesson about the weather or seasonal change. It could be used following discussion about how we can compare how hot or cold things are. It would be useful to draw the pupils’ attention to a piece of simple equipment before they are going to use it in their experiments and observations and to introduce some new terminology. A thermometer could then be used to accurately record the temperatures in icy, warm and hand hot water. The pupils could perform some simple melting and freezing experiments with materials such as chocolate, ice lollies and margarine to compare the temperatures at which they change form perhaps using a digital probe.
