Bill shows Bernie how to do laundry at a laundrette, including buying a cup of laundry powder for 10p. Bernie doesn't have a 10p coin but does have a pound coin. Bernie ends up with 10 cups of washing powder and makes the mistake of trying to use them all at once.
In order to secure their knowledge of coin recognition, students could explore how they could pay for differently priced objects using the appropriate coin. This clip could be used to explore what happens if we do not have the exact amount of money. Students could discuss what they think will happen in real life if this scenario occurs. A class discussion on how to solve this problem could then be carried out and used to introduce the concept of giving change. Students could act out Bernie's problem and similar scenarios and work out the change to be given.
