An explanation of how bromeliad plants find sunlight by rooting themselves high up in the trees of the tropical rainforest. As they cannot put roots down into the soil they instead collect water with their leaves.

Useful as part of a topic on helping plants grow well. The children could watch the clip to identify or reinforce what plants need in order to grow. Following this, they could carry out a number of investigations into plant growth such as: 'What is the effect of removing all the leaves from a plant? What is the effect of different plant ‘foods’?'
