An animated story-telling penguin selects effective vocabulary for organising a narrative by eating word fish from a pool. Vocabulary features include sequencing words, adverbs, verbs, present participles and connectives.
Useful to introduce or revisit the concept of varying vocabulary to sequence and structure ideas in a narrative. Issue students with a narrative reduced to 6 or 7 bullet points. Watch the clip and discuss the key points then ask students to develop the narrative into paragraphs using as many of the features identified by the clip as they can.
