An old man is trying to get to sleep but the boy next door won't stop playing his drum. So the man asks for help from three different people. Will they be able to help him or will he have to move out so he can get a good sleep?
A simple beginning - middle - end storyboard could be used to record the story and the children asked to re-tell it. Could also be used as an example of a patterned and predictable text. Alternatively, children might use a story map or artefacts such as the drum and the kite as an aid to re-telling the story. They could be asked to make up their own 'drum' or 'kite' stories.
