A brief animated sequence illustrating the range of sounds we can hear. It makes the point that the brain can distinguish between a variety of different sounds. We are also told that our ears are responsive to sounds at widely differing volumes and that we continue to register sounds, even when we are asleep.
Could be used as a starting point to explore all the different sounds we hear in the world around us. After watching, pupils could close their eyes and try to name what is making all the different sounds they can hear. You could list all their suggestions on the board. The children could discuss which are the loudest and quietest sounds. Which of these sounds do they think are closest to them? Which are the most distant?
