Two experts take a look at what the Oscar-tipped film gets right and wrong about the real history of Queen Anne and her favourites.

Yorgos Lanthimos's The Favourite may at first watch seem beautifully and deliberately absurd, and as far away from historical accuracy as you could imagine. However, a closer look reveals a surprising amount of truth embedded within the film.

In this video Ophelia Field, a biographer of Sarah Churchill, and Matthew Storey, a curator at Kensington Palace, fact check just how much the film gets right about the real story of Queen Anne and her favourites, from the lesbian love triangle to the elaborate costume design.
