Extracts from Shakespeare's Animated Tales featuring 'The Taming of the Shrew' Act 4 - Petruchio seeks to tame his wife Katharina.
Can be used to develop students' knowledge and understanding of historical context. Students are given the task of researching attitudes to women and the place of women in society during the late 16th century. Students might research arranged marriages, but that attitudes towards marriage were becoming more romantic. Students could research the nature of patriarchal society and what attitudes were to the depiction of Katherine as the 'Shrew' of the play. There are those that condemn and others who defend Shakespeare for his seemingly misogynist play. Can students carry out a whole class discussion on the issue? This could take the form of a TV panel show.
