भावनाएं कितनी महत्वपूर्ण...?

जज़्बात या भावना के सैलाब में बह कर उठाए गए कुछ क़दम बड़े भारी हो सकते हैं और शायद उनको क़ाबू में रखने को ही समझदारी का नाम दिया जाता है. इन सबके बावजूद भावनाएं हमारे लिए काफ़ी महत्वपूर्ण हैं.

हमारी लेखन शैली, हमारे स्वर, हमारे शब्द और हमारी बातों में हमारी भावनाएं निहित होती हैं और वह उसमें जान डालती हैं. भावनाएं भाव वाचक संज्ञा हैं. विभिन्न प्रकार के रंगों से सुसज्जित होने के बावजूद इनका कोई रंग नहीं होता.

आज हम अंग्रेज़ी में भावनाओं की अभिव्यक्ति वाले शब्द लेकर आए हैं, जैसे, ख़ुशी, ग़म, आशा, निराशा वग़ैरह. अंग्रेज़ी में भावना के लिए इमोशन्स (Emotions) का प्रयोग करते हैं.

विभिन्न शब्दकोशों में इमोशन की अभिव्यक्ति के लिए ये शब्द दिए गए हैं. आइए देखते हैं हमारी भावनाएं क्या कहती हैं और इनका प्रयोग कैसे करते हैं?

Acceptance (ऐक्सेप्टैंस) यानि स्वीकृति या स्वीकरण या रज़ामंदी प्रयोग: The idea rapidly gained acceptance in the political circle.

Affection (अफ़ेक्शन) अनुराग, स्नेह प्रयोग: Teachers have deep affection for their students.

Anger (ऐंगर) क्रोध, रोष, ग़ुस्सा प्रयोग: He has a lot of anger towards his father who treated him badly as a child. या I cannot hold my anger.

Annoyance (अनोयांस) संतापन, नाराज़गी, छेड़ख़ानी प्रयोग: I can understand your annoyance. She is fit for childcare.

Anxiety (ऐंज़ाइटी) चिंता, फ़िक्र प्रयोग: Her son is a source of considerable anxiety.

Apathy (अपैथी) उदासीनता, भावशून्यता प्रयोग: I attended such a class where apathy existed among both the students and teachers.

Awe (एव) श्रृद्धायुक्त विस्मय, रौब, भय प्रयोग: The sight of the saint filled the people with awe. या वर्ब के तौर पर I was awed but not frightened at coming near the lion in the zoo.

Boredom (बोरडम) ऊब, ऊबाऊपन, नीरस्ता, उचाट प्रयोग: They came out in stormy weather out of sheer boredom.

Compassion (कमपैशन) करूणा, तरस, रहम प्रयोग: The company does not show any compassion towards their employees at this hour of great depression.

Contempt (कौंटेम्पट) तिरस्कार, हिक़ारत, अपमान, घृणा प्रयोग: She makes no attempt to conceal her contempt for beggars.

Curiosity (क्यूरियोसिटी) कुतूहल, जिज्ञासा, जानने की दिलचस्पी प्रयोग: I am burning with curiosity—who will win the series in New Zealand.

Annoyance (अनोयांस) संतापन, नाराज़गी, छेड़ख़ानी प्रयोग: I can understand your annoyance. She is fit for childcare.

Depression (डिप्रेशन) दबाव-तनाव, उदासी, अवनति प्रयोग: It is hard to get out from depression very quickly. It’s advisable to take professional help if you’re suffering from depression.

Desire (डिज़ायर) ख़्वाहिश, अभिलाशा, इच्छा, कामना प्रयोग: He does not have much desire for wealth. It’s difficult to suppress the desire of the people for a long. It’s an old saying, first deserve then desire.

Disappointment (डिसअप्वांइंटमेंट) निराशा, विफलता, मायूसी प्रयोग: To my disappointment, he decided to leave me. It was a great disappointment for the people to watch India losing.

Disgust (डिसगस्ट) विरक्ति, घृणा, खीज प्रयोग: He left the hall in sheer disgust. Doesn’t all these violence on TV disgust you.

Ecstasy (एक्सटैसी) हर्षोन्माद, प्रहर्ष, उल्लास प्रयोग: She called her husband in ecstasy but was depressed at his behaviour. The film ended when the hero kills her beloved in an ecstasy of jealousy.

Embarrassment (एम्बैरेसमेंट) घबराहट, लज्जा, शर्मिंदगी प्रयोग: She blushed with embarrassment. I tried not to show up after last night’s embarrassment.

Envy (एनवी) ईर्ष्या, डाह, हसद, जलन प्रयोग: I envy his ability to perform before the live audience.

Euphoria (यूफ़ोरिया) सुखाभास प्रयोग: The whole India went into a kind of euphoria after Indian based movie Slumdog Millionaire won over half a dozen Oscar this year.

Fear (फ़ियर) ख़ौफ़, डर, भय प्रयोग: He that is down needs fear no fall. He rushed to the police station out of extreme fear.

Frustration (फ़्रस्ट्रेशन) आशाभंग, कुण्ठा, खीज, मायूसी प्रयोग: He left the hall in frustration and started raising anti movement slogans.

Gratitude (ग्रैटिच्यूड़) कृतज्ञता, एहसानमंदी प्रयोग: The organisers of the programme expressed their gratitude to the chief guest.

Grief (ग्रीफ़) ग़म, दुख, शोक प्रयोग: In a fit of anger and grief he fell down. Media should not intrude on people’s private grief.

Guilt (गिल्ट) दोष बोध, अपराध बोध, जुर्म का एहसास प्रयोग: There was no sense of guilt in the community on the barbaric murder of the priest. The protagonist of the novel is a guilt-ridden young man.

Happiness (हैप्पीनेस) ख़ुशी, सुख-शांति, प्रसन्नता प्रयोग: It is hard to find peace and happiness in one’s life these days. AR Rehman expressed his happiness over wining two Oscar awards in 2009.

Hatred (हेटरेड) नफ़रत, बैर, घृणा प्रयोग: The murder was carried out of extreme hatred. Don’t let hatred rule your mind.

Hope (होप) आशा, उम्मीद, भरोसा प्रयोग: His performance at the exams destroyed our hopes. The situation is now beyond hope.

Horror(हौरर) ख़ौफ़, संत्रास, दहल प्रयोग: She was filled with horror when she did not find her baby in the room.

Hostility (होस्टिलिटी) दुश्मनी, शत्रुता, बैर प्रयोग: The rival groups showed open hostility towards each other. The hostility between the two communities is growing after the incident.

Hysteria (हिस्टीरिया) हिस्टीरिया, वातोन्माद, जज़्बात का दौरा प्रयोग: A woman, close to hysteria, jumped from the running train.

Interest (इंटेरेस्ट) दिलचस्पी, रुचि, रस प्रयोग: I have lost all interest in gambling. Don’t lose your interest in life.

Jealousy (जेलसी) डाह, हसद, जलन, ईर्ष्या प्रयोग: She left the party in a fit of jealousy as she found her boy friend dancing with another girl. He was eaten up with jealousy when he heard his friend has been given promotion.

Loathing (लोथिंग), नफ़रत, घृणा, नापसंदगी प्रयोग: Both the teams went into the ground with deep loathing in their eyes.

Love (लव) प्रेम, प्यार मोहब्बत प्रयोग: Love is the most beautiful thing in the world. There is an old saying—love me, love my dog. I have to chose between love and hate.

Pity (पिटी) रहम करुणा, तरस, दया प्रयोग: She feels no pity for the roadside professional beggars. She kept gazing in pity at her son.

Pride (प्राइड) अभिमान, अहंकार, घमंड, गर्व प्रयोग: Pride is one of the seven deadly sins. He felt great pride when his son was selected in the national hockey team.

Rage (रेज) ग़ुस्सा, रोष, क्रोधोन्माद, भाववेश प्रयोग: Her sudden towering rage was hard to understand. I have never seen him in such a rage before.

Regret (रिग्रेट) पश्चाताप, पचतावा, खेद प्रयोग: Is there anything in your past life that you regret. I really regret leaving the music band. Remorse (रिमोर्स) का भी इसी अर्थ में प्रयोग किया जाता है.

Sadness (सैडनेस) उदासी, विषाद प्रयोग: I can see the tinge of sadness on your face.

Shame (शेम) शरम, हया, लज्जा प्रयोग: He says that he feels no shame for what he has done. The children hang their heads in shame.

Suffering (सफरिंग) पीड़ा, कष्ट, दर्द, दुखभोग प्रयोग: There’s no doubt that the war will bring widespread devastation and human suffering.

Surprise (सरप्राइज़) हैरत, अचरज, आश्चर्य, अचंभा, ताज्जुब प्रयोग: Your letter was a pleasant surprise. It is a nasty surprise to find that your pocket has been picked.

Wonder (वॉन्डर) हैरत, अचरज, आश्चर्य, अचंभा, ताज्जुब प्रयोग: There is no wonder in going to the movie. He shook his head in wonder. She cannot conceal her wonder over the gift she received on her birthday.

Worry (वरी) चिंता, परेशानी प्रयोग: There’s noting to worry about. Worry makes you sick. चलते चलते बस यही कह सकता हूं Don’t worry, be happy
