Danny Alexander said it had been an exciting couple of weeks
Scottish Secretary Danny Alexander has become a father for the second time.
His wife Rebecca gave birth to the couple's second daughter, Isla, at Guys and St Thomas' hospital in London, shortly before 0400 BST.
The Lib Dem MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey was appointed Secretary of State for Scotland in the coalition UK government on 12 May.
Mr Alexander, 38, said: "It has been a very exciting couple of weeks."
However, he added that the birth was the "undoubted highlight".
