Petrol bombs thrown at police van in Derry

Three petrol bombs were thrown at a police vehicle in Derry

Three petrol bombs have been thrown at police vehicle during disturbances in Londonderry on Monday night.

Officers were called to the Nailors Row area after report of youths throwing bottles and bricks were made.

Police remained in the area for several hours until calm was restored.

Inspector Jon Burrows said CCTV footage would be reviewed to identify those involved: "We will be taking all necessary steps to find out who you are and put you before the courts."

"Your actions are making life a misery for the people who live in the area and reflect badly on your own communities," he continued.

SDLP councillor, Helen Quigley, condemned those responsible.

"Parents need to know where their children are to stop the damage and fear spreading," she said.

"This area has been rocked by petrol bombs and unrest for a number of years now. However, this cannot stand."
