Johnston was released on bail after sentence was deferred

A 46-year-old man has admitted sexually abusing a girl over a nine-year-period in Glasgow.

Richard Johnston, from the Parkhead area, began attacking the girl when she was eight-years-old. The abuse carried on at various addresses in the city between 1988 and 1997.

He also admitted getting into bed with a girl, aged 10, between 1991 and 1992.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, sentence on Johnston was deferred and he was released on bail.

The court heard how Johnston sexually abused the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when he babysat for her and her brothers and sisters.

Pleas accepted

He told her that if she did not do what he asked or told anyone about it he would start abusing her sister.

The abuse stopped when his victim turned 17 but it was years later when she finally told police what had happened to her.

Johnstron was also charged with a string of other child sex offences but prosecutors accepted his pleas of not guilty to those charges.

Sheriff Norman Ritchie deferred sentence until next month for background reports.
