Aberdeen has been named as Britain's top eco-city - as well as the 19th in the world - in a new survey.

Business analysts Mercer looked at criteria including air quality and traffic congestion, with Calgary in Canada winning.

The company also ranks world cities for their quality of life, and Aberdeen came 53rd in the world.

The city was second only to London in UK terms, based on criteria such as crime and health care.

London was the only UK city to have been ranked in a global top 50, reaching 39th spot.

Vienna was ranked at the top of the list for the second year running.

Glasgow came in behind Aberdeen at 57th.

The least desirable city of the 221 in the study was the Iraqi capital Baghdad, placed at the bottom of the list due to its lack of safety and stability.
