William Wilkinson has denied the charges
A Ballymena councillor has been convicted of trying to rape a woman who was described as a casual acquaintance.
However the jury are to return to Antrim Crown Court on Thursday to resume their deliberations on a charge of rape against 33-year-old William Wilkinson from the Tully Road in Portglenone.
He has denied the charges.
Mr Wilkinson, 33, sits as a United Unionist Coalition Party member.
He originally held the seat for the DUP but left the party three years ago.
