'Approaches' spark police stranger alert in Surrey

Police have issued safety advice to pupils at schools on the border of Surrey and south-west London after four young girls were approached by men.

Surrey Police said the incidents, which had taken place in Caterham, Warlingham and Whyteleafe, were not currently being linked and no-one was hurt.

Officers from both Surrey Police and the Met Police have urged youngsters to report any suspicious activity.

Insp Elaine Burtenshaw said their main concern was for the safety of children.

She added: "The Tandridge incidents have not happened near schools but it is vital our safety messages reach young people and that parents are armed with the facts.

"We are aware there is a lot of misinformation circulating regarding these Tandridge incidents and I would ask everyone to bear in mind none of the girls were injured, they were not physically touched by these men, but obviously it was an incredibly frightening experience for everyone involved."
