A man died after his minibus crashed into a barrier on the M74 near Glasgow, after apparently forcing a police car off the road.

The 38-year-old man, from Hanwell in London, died at the scene of the crash, between Maryville and Cambuslang.

Police had reports of a minibus driving erratically at 0445 BST on Saturday.

Two officers sustained minor injuries when they tried to stop the vehicle at junction 5. The minibus continued for about three miles and hit a barrier.

Strathclyde Police said the Lothian and Borders force had been appointed to oversee the investigation, and appealed for witnesses.
