A police investigation is under way after phone lines were sliced on telegraph poles in and around Dumfries at the weekend.

A large number of homes lost connection as a result of the incidents.

Cables were cut on Alloway Road in Dumfries, West Cluden Farm at Newbridge and at High Mansfield Farm at Terregles.

Similar incidents were reported on the road between Woodlands and Newbridge and the Irongray to Shawhead road.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said Sky television cables had also been cut at houses in College Street and Stakeford Street in Dumfries at the weekend.
