Work starts on developing Stoke-on-Trent Canal Quarter
Work has begun on a major urban renewal project that will see more than 250 new homes built in Stoke-on-Trent city centre.
Talbot Street, Berkeley Street and Howson Street have been closed as part of the Canal Quarter scheme.
This is part of the City Waterside masterplan which will regenerate 120 acres in the city centre.
The closures are to allow work on disused mineshafts.
It is anticipated a residential developer will be appointed later this year and the first houses will be built in Spring 2011.
The Canal Quarter development will also feature small-scale commercial, leisure and retail outlets within a five hectare area.
