Strabane district gets new chair

Strabane District Council has a new chairperson

Sinn Fein councillor Michaela Boyle has been elected as the new chairman of Strabane District Council.

It is the first time in more that 30 years that a woman has held the office. DUP councillor Thomas Kerrigan was elected as vice chair.

Councillor Boyle, who takes over from Kieran McGuire, said that it was a "privilege and an honour".

"I will focus on improving services for the betterment of the citizens of Strabane District," she said.

"I look forward to maximising the potential of this area over the next, challenging 12 months."
