Man found in Peckham burning car 'was shot in the head'
A man whose body was found in a burnt-out car in south-east London was shot in the head, Metropolitan Police said.
Firefighters who attended the blaze in Jowett Street on Tuesday night called police when crews found the body. The man is yet to be formally identified.
Officers said the silver Rover, number plate V683 DPN, was parked at the scene for up to two weeks before the fire.
Detectives say two or three men had been seen running from the fire, who they believe are the suspects.
Smell of accelerant
The Met said the post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a "gunshot wound to the head".
The vehicle was purchased locally, with the buyer giving false details and was parked at the scene for up to two weeks.
But the suspects may have taken it away for a time before returning it to the scene before the bank holiday weekend.
There was a strong smell of "accelerant" at the scene, police said.
