Ban for owner after mouse seen in pizza restaurant
A Birmingham fast food restaurant owner has been given a suspended jail sentence after hygiene inspectors saw mice running along a kebab rotisserie.
Environmental health officers who went into East Pizza in Smallbrook Queensway also saw mice eating discarded chips.
Shahrar Abdolahi, 31, was given 36 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, and banned from running a food business.
He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of breaching food hygiene regulations.
Birmingham City Council brought the prosecution against Abdolahi. Birmingham Crown Court heard charges included failing to ensure adequate procedures were in place to control pests and poor structural maintenance which allowed the mice to get in.
The premises and equipment were not kept clean and food was at risk of contamination.
The charges relate to three emergency closures which were made against the business in 2008.
Abdolahi admitted the offences at an earlier hearing. He was also ordered to do £200 unpaid work and to stay in touch with the probation services.
