A woman has died in hospital after becoming unwell while swimming in the sea.

Serien Henderson, 41, from Penygroes, Gwynedd, was with friends near Hafan y Mor Holiday Park at Pwllhelli, Gwynedd, when the alarm was raised on Wednesday.

North Wales Police said she was given first aid at the scene and was then airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, where she later died.

A post mortem examination is to be held to establish the cause of death.

Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones has opened and adjourned an inquest at Caernarfon.

North Wales Police said she had been swimming in the sea with friends "when one of the party became concerned for her welfare and alerted the authorities".
