Walkers warned against criminals after theft

Walkers and climbers have been urged to take precautions against thieves after an outdoor enthusiast had gear worth £1,200 stolen from his car.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland member said he had left nothing on show in his vehicle before leaving it at a car park at Linn of Dee, near Braemar.

The area is popular with walkers and gives access to the Lairig Ghru pass.

A warning about the potential for thieves to target walkers' vehicles has been posted on the council's website.
