A jury has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of a chef accused of murdering his wife with a griddle pan and hiding her body in a freezer.

Peter Wallner, 34, formerly of Hamilton Avenue, Cobham, Surrey, denies murder but admits the manslaughter of Melanie Wallner, 30, in 2006.

He said he "lost the plot" and struck her three times in the face after she confronted him about an affair.

Mrs Wallner's body was found in a wheelie bin outside their home in 2009.

The prosecution claims her killed Mrs Wallner as she slept because she was found with a sleeping mask over her eyes.
