A man who died while swimming in a stream in Oxford has been named.

Daniel Lewis, 29, from Wheatley, went swimming in Bullstake Stream, near West Oxford Community Centre in Botley Road, on Wednesday.

Police and firefighters were called at about 1815 BST when he did not surface. His body was recovered about two hours later.

Officers are treating the death as unexplained. Mr Lewis's next of kin have been informed.

Nearby residents said the stretch of the stream, which feeds into the River Isis, was known as Tumbling Bay.

They said it had been used as a swimming area, with a lifeguard, more than 20 years ago but in recent years it had not been supervised.
