Defendant 'has 260 convictions'

Londonderry Courthouse

A man with 260 previous convictions for burglary has appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court charged in connection with a "creeper burglary gang".

Edward Crerand, 27, of Brookdale Park, Derry, was one of three charged in connection with a number of burglaries in Derry and Donegal in May and June.

The others were Jonathan Ayton, 34, of Bond's Hill, and Karen McDonald, 24, of no fixed abode.

The court also heard Mr Ayton had nine previous convictions. Bail was refused.

A police officer said he was able to connect the defendants to a property where stolen goods were found.

In refusing bail to the three defendants, District Judge Eamon King said he believed that no conditions could be attached that would prevent the risk of further offences.
