Devon and Cornwall Police are urging football fans not to cause trouble during the World Cup.

Officers have visited bars and pubs to advise publicans on sensible drinking, especially on England match days.

Supporters are also being urged to plan ahead and not drink lots of alcohol if they have to drive early the next day.

Officers will be on patrol in Devon and Cornwall the morning after match days to identify those over the limit, the police have warned.

Ch Insp Peter Coppin-Harris said: "Our policing priority is to make sure that this is an enjoyable tournament for everyone, wherever they watch it, and that those causing drink-related trouble are dealt with robustly.

"Anyone caught causing trouble or disorder during the World Cup risks getting locked up and may be issued with a Football Banning Order which could see them banned from every football ground in England and Wales.
