New Wyre Forest crematorium work set to start

Work on a new cemetery and crematorium in Worcestershire costing more than £4m is set to start this week.

The 23-acre Minster Road site between Stourport and Kidderminster will include full burial and crematorium facilities and a chapel of rest.

Work is due to be completed by next spring.

John Campion, Wyre Forest District Council leader, said it wanted to make sure people have the opportunity to be buried locally.

He said: "We're running out of space. We've identified over the last five, six years, that eventually the cemetery in Kidderminster will become full.

"We want to make sure that local residents have the opportunity to be buried locally or indeed cremated locally.

"So therefore we've been working over the last few years to get partners on board and a sustainable and deliverable project that is now coming to fruition."
