Sex act pregnant prison officer faces jail
A prison officer has been told she will go to jail after admitting having a sexual relationship with an inmate.
Donna Stanton, 27, of Ashmead Road, Bedford, had denied doing acts intended to pervert the course of public justice but later changed her plea.
Luton Crown Court heard Stanton had become "obsessed" with the inmate after he arrived at Bedford prison.
Stanton, who is pregnant, was bailed to be sentenced some time in September after the birth of her baby.
The court heard Stanton became "infatuated and absolutely obsessed" with the inmate and smuggled a mobile phone into the prison for him as well as food, tobacco and newspapers.
As he neared the end of a seven year jail term, Stanton visited him in his cell nearly every day when sexual acts took place, the court heard.
The relationship continued after his release from jail but when it ended Stanton sought revenge, the court heard.
Prosecutors said Stanton went to her bosses at Bedford Prison and then to the police claiming the inmate had been blackmailing her, threatened her with violence and had stolen her car.
It was only when detectives questioned him that "the truth emerged," the prosecution said.
Stanton pleaded not guilty to two offences of misconduct in a public office, giving a mobile phone to a serving prisoner and doing acts tending to pervert the course of public justice.
She later changed her plea to guilty to giving him a mobile phone while he was a prisoner and doing acts tending or intended to pervert the course of public justice.
The two misconduct charges were ordered to "lie on the file".
Judge John Bevan told Stanton it was inevitable she would go to prison.
