Army makes safe bomb found in Downpatrick

A suspicious object which led to a security alert in the County Down area was a bomb.

The device was found in the Mount Crescent area of Downpatrick on Thursday at about 1445 BST.

A number of families had to leave their homes as army bomb experts moved in to examine the object.

They took it away and police have confirmed that it was a "viable device".
