Vandals have caused "significant damage" to about 150 headstones at a cemetery in Glasgow.

Cardonald Cemetery was targeted sometime between 1700 BST on Wednesday and 0900 BST on Thursday.

Insp Fiona Carmichael, from Govan Police Office, said she was "disgusted" by the damage.

"Families will now also have the financial worry of repairing or replacing headstones for their loved ones," she said.

"We are carrying out extensive inquiries and there will be an increase in high visibility patrols by local community officers in the area.

"We will pursue the individuals responsible for these crimes. If you have any information at all please come forward and help us to trace the people responsible."
