Taxi driver plea after passenger dies in Worcester

Police want to trace the driver of a taxi after a passenger died.

The man was with a friend in a cab in Worcester city centre when the incident, which police are treating as a road traffic collision, took place.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident at Northwick Road, on Wednesday night and died later in hospital, police said.

Police said they are also appealing for witnesses and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.

No other vehicles are believed to be involved, the spokesman added.

'Contact us urgently'

Insp Phil Worthington said: "We need to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident and also the driver of this taxi.

"We would ask witnesses and the taxi driver to contact us urgently so that we can continue to investigate this incident fully.

"It would, therefore, be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

The injured passenger was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance.

He was later transferred to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry where he died on Friday, police said.
