Motorcyclist dies in head-on car crash in rural Dorset

A motorcyclist has died in a head-on crash with a car on a rural road in Dorset.

It happened on the A357 between Shillingstone and Sturminster Newton shortly after midday.

The 26-year-old man from Dorchester who was riding the motorbike died at the scene.

The woman, aged 30, who was driving the Rover car was taken to the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester suffering from severe shock, police said.

The road was shut for several hours while police investigated the cause of the crash.

Officers want to hear from anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle being driven prior to it.

The crash happened about a mile outside Shillingstone.

The motorcyclist was travelling northbound and the car southbound.
