Man exposes himself to teenage girls in Whitley Bay

Police have stepped up patrols in North Tyneside after a man indecently exposed himself to girls walking to and from school.

The teenagers were targeted in Churchill playing fields off Hartley Avenue in Whitley Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The man, who was described as white and of average build and height, wore dark-coloured spectacles and a red earring.

The girls involved were unharmed. Police have appealed for information.

Advice offered

The first incident happened on 8 June at 1600 BST when a teenager was walking home with her friend through the fields.

The next day another girl was targeted as she walked to school at about 0845 BST. The girl ran off.

Police said they were working with schools in the area and pupils were being offered advice during school assemblies.

One man was arrested on 10 June in connection with the incidents but was released with no further police action.
