Councillors in Taunton have been considering plans to demolish a 220-home council estate.

The Halcon North estate was built in the 1930s and is within the top 10% of deprived areas nationally.

Taunton Deane Borough Council wants to build 500 new homes as well as as a community hall, a church and allotments in its place.

Power for the new homes would be provided by generators running on waste materials.

A series of consultations with people living nearby are to be held at dates to be arranged later this summer.

The plans will continue to be considered on Wednesday.
