A fire has started in a derelict building in Shrewsbury that was at the centre of an explosion in January in which 12 people were injured.

Sparks caused by demolition work are thought to have started a fire in a collapsed building on the corner of Smithfield Road and Bridge Street.

The fire started at about noon and was put out by 1305 BST.

Nearby Welsh Bridge and Smithfield Road were closed while fire crews were on the scene but have since re-opened.

An explosion on 3 January caused the building to collapse. Neighbours said they awoke to a smell of gas and an investigation has been started into the cause of the explosion.
