Nine killed in clash in Russia's Dagestan region
Four policemen and five gunmen have been killed in a shoot-out in Russia's southern region of Dagestan, officials say.
Regional police spokesman Vyacheslav Gasanov said the clash took place at a house in the village of Kostek, near the city of Derbent.
Weapons and explosives were found at the site where the rebels had been hiding, police said.
Dagestan authorities have been battling an Islamist insurgency.
Attacks by militants regularly claim the lives of civilians and police in the volatile region.
Three other police officers were wounded in the siege, in which gunfire was exchanged after armed rebels refused to surrender their weapons.
In a separate incident, four suspected militants were killed by security forces after refusing to stop their car, police said.
