Youth in court over former Marine stabbing in Mitcham

A youth has appeared in court over the stabbing of a former trainee Royal Marine and his father in south London.

Matthew Stevenson-Webber, 24, was stabbed in the back in the attack in Mitcham on Tuesday night.

His father Craig Joseph-Webber, 45, was stabbed in the head and is in a critical but stable condition.

The 17-year-old from Birmingham appeared before Wimbledon magistrates charged with grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon.

Another 17-year-old, two 19-year-olds and a 20-year-old who were also questioned over the attack were bailed pending further inquiries.

Mr Stevenson-Webber is expected to be discharged from hospital shortly.

He joined the Royal Marines in 2007, but left due to a training injury.
