Dumped Birmingham gnomes' World Cup rebirth

A football mad household recycling worker took two days off work to paint dumped gnomes in the colours of all 32 World Cup nations.

It took Neil Goode, 33, about 50 hours to complete the marathon task at the Household Recycling Centre in Lifford Lane, Birmingham.

"All the English like it," said Mr Goode "although some have asked where the Welsh and Irish ones were.

"I had to give them the obvious answer."

The gnomes are on display at the entrance to the recycling centre.
