An East Sussex town is gearing up for its annual scarecrow festival next month after entries rose by 20%.

Tourism chiefs said applications had "flooded in" for this year's Battle Scarecrow Festival.

From 5 to 25 July, more than 60 scarecrows will be on display around the town centre.

Organisers said applications had now closed but people could join in the fundraising event by voting for their favourite.

Money raised will be shared between St Michael's Hospice and Beautiful Battle, which runs the town's entry for the Britain in Bloom competition.
