Prolific offender 'given chance' to turn life around

A prolific offender has been given a chance to turn his life around after Norwich Crown Court heard he was now drugs free.

David Birt, 28, of no fixed address, admitted common assault on 19 February and 26 March in Great Yarmouth and having an offensive weapon.

The court heard Birt has 38 convictions for 130 offences including some for violence.

He was put on a 12 month drugs rehabilitation programme.

He was also given a 12 month supervision order.

Judge Simon Barham told him: "You are making efforts to turn your life around and are motivated to change so I am giving you a chance."

Kevin Batch, representing Birt, said his client had had a high dependency on drugs but wanted to turn over a new leaf.
